OBITUARY:

Virginia Mahone Jackson, was born July 21, 1930 in Talbot County, Georgia to very loving parents, George T. Mahone and Icy Lee Thomas. She was a very happy child growing up in a large and close knit family. She enjoyed family gatherings and attending church with relatives and friends.

She started her education in the Junction City, Georgia Public Schools and received her GED from Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, Georgia.

Virginia married James Paul Jackson on May 4, 1946. "J.P." was a loving and attentive husband to her and she was a caring and faithful wife for 62 years until his death in 2009. To this union three children were born. Being a good mother was one of her great pleasures in life.

She loved her family and dedicated her Hie to not only doting on her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, but her cllildren's friends also. They became her cliildren, and their children became her grandchildren. Affectionately known as "Grandma", she loved deeply and passionately, and her concern was always genuine. She was a mother and grandmother to her nieces, nephews and countless others that became extended family. Everyone knew without a doubt just how much she loved them.

Virginia's life was an amazing one. By relying solely on God's grace she was able to accomplish so much and redefine her career paths over and over again. In the late 1950's VJ became employed as an Order Clerk for the Ponce de Leon Infirmary cafeteria for 10 years until a young doctor approached her and told her that she was too attractive to work in a kitchen. That doctor made an offer to send her to nursing school where she excelled, graduated and became the office nurse for the Ears, Nose and Throat Dr. Robert Brown. She worked for Dr. Brown for more than 20 years until her retirement. During that time she served as the president of the Fulton County Nurses Association for several years.

Not satisfied with retirement, after joining Hillside Chapel and Truth Center she attended the Barbara L. King School of Ministry, graduating in 1990. She became a licensed and ordained minister. Hence, Reverend Jackson became the noon day Minister of Prayer and one of the church's Spiritual Counselors. Her 'clients' became another set of extended family. So much so that her husband built her a home office to attend to the needs of those that sought her services. She was as devoted to them as they were to her.

What a beautiful life! Virginia was tired and the Lord said 'enough.' On the 9th of December she made the great transition to be with her Father in Heaven. As difficult it is to see her leave, it is equally as gratifying to know there are loved ones welcoming her to be present with the Father and enjoy perfect peace.

She leaves to cherish her memory two loving sons; a dedicated and loving daughter, a son-in-law, three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, two sisters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and extended family that includes Hillside Chapel and Truth Center and many special sisters and brothers in Christ.
